"AMERICAN GURL" - KILO KISH
Kilo Kish is finally back with her latest single, “American Gurl”. It’s a catchy, synth-pop tune. The music video features Kilo Kish dancing in the desert wearing a killer jumpsuit.
Kilo Kish states that the song speaks to the rat race and static systems that keep us in a rut: “Trying to overcome my own history, overcome the need to be a success story, an achiever. Trying to outrun it all with the weight of expectation on your shoulders. Feeling boxed in by my own work, race, womanhood, age, experience level, and looks and just wanting to singular and free. For me it was ultimately freeing to admit that I don’t know how to carry those identities or if I even wanted to anymore. To just strip myself completely. And to admit that I don’t know anything.”
Her upcoming project will be about power or choice and escaping notions and identities imposed on you that are not yours to claim.
"DEMONIC (FEAT. LA ZOWI)" - NAMASENDA
Namasenda returns with Madrid-based singer La Zowie to bring us a dark, futuristic pop banger. Produced by A.G. Cook, “Demonic” creates this innovative soundscape that transports you into a fiery club where demons come to play.
In a statement about the song, the Stockholm-based artist says “‘Demonic’ is basically about taking what you want. La Zowi definitely matches that energy and I’m a big fan so it felt very natural for me to get her on the track.”
It’ll be exciting to see in which direction Namasenda takes her music next.
"I CAN SEE THE FUTURE" - TINASHE
“I Can See The Future” is a sultry R&B single. Tinashe’s confidence and swagger is on full display as she sings about seeing a future with her lover over an infectious trap beat.
This is Tinashe’s 3rd single off her upcoming album, 333. You can pre-save here. She stated that “I Can See The Future” was the last track written for the album and that it embodies a West Coast energy that she loves so much after growing up in LA.
Tinashe is also released dates for her 333 Tour that’s set to start in September.
"NEW NORMAL" - KHALID
Khalid returns with an ambient yet optimistic tune where he reflects on life during the pandemic. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Khalid said, “Around this time last year, I was super fascinated and gravitated toward space. I was watching this comet by the name of Neowise last year, and space travel is something that I’ve always been interested in as well. And I’ve been going through the motions of understanding this new, postmodern future that’s coming together, especially when it comes down to technology — it’s something that really excites me.”
The music video for “New Normal” plays on Khalid’s fascination of a postmodern world by featuring drones, electric cars, and apartments equipped with the latest tech.
The lyrics are relatable and hopeful. It’s the kind of song we needed to hear as we navigate life in this new normal.
